Nongshim’s branded booth at the UAE Comic Con (MEFCC) ran from September 11 to 13 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center, drawing on a crowd of more than 45,000 visitors to the Middle East’s largest pop culture festival. The activation served as a direct distribution and sampling operation for Shin Ramen, built around interactive experiences designed to reach Gen Z consumers in a region where youth demographics are strong and appetite for Korean cultural content keeps growing.
The booth itself was engineered for engagement. Nongshim designed the space around Shin Ramen products, installing photography zones and a 360-degree camera experience, and made limited-edition merchandise, including key rings and stickers, available to visitors. Outside the venue, a food truck dispensed Shin Ramen snacks alongside large sculptural installations built from oversized Shin Ramen cups. That dual-venue setup let the company reach casual passersby and committed attendees alike, combining visual brand reinforcement with direct tasting.

The Abu Dhabi activation is one node in a simultaneous multi-continent rollout. Nongshim participated in Gamescom in Germany the previous month and is running a Shin Ramen booth concurrently at the Toronto International Film Festival in Canada. At TIFF’s Festival Street location, visitors can sample Shin Ramen Tomba and Shin Ramen Kimchi Stir-fried Noodles and customize their own cups by selecting noodles, soups, and toppings. Proceeds from the Toronto program go to local food banks, attaching a community benefit to the promotional operation.
What changed in Nongshim’s approach is the deliberate alignment of product placement with cultural content. The company has identified games, animations, and pop culture as the categories that move its target demographic, and is routing brand activations through events built around those interests. The shift repositions Shin Ramen from a standalone food product to a fixture in a broader lifestyle context for younger global consumers.
The Middle East is the most concrete near-term delivery target. Nongshim has announced plans to introduce branded Shin Ramen stands in major discount stores across the region beginning in October, creating permanent retail touchpoints to follow the event-based exposure. A company official described the sequence directly: “Following the enthusiastic response of this Comic-Con, we plan to introduce a special stand with the concept of Shin Ramen brand to major supermarkets in the Middle East in October. We will continue to increase our contact point with global consumers including the Middle East market through customized marketing activities in the future.”
That phased structure, cultural event first, retail infrastructure second, is the operational logic running through the entire expansion. Awareness built at festivals and conventions is meant to convert into purchase behavior once shelf presence is established. The company has previously activated at the Jeonju International Film Festival in Korea and continues to scout additional cultural events globally, treating each as both a sampling point and a proof-of-concept for the markets it intends to enter.
Whether the October retail rollout in the Middle East lands on schedule, and whether the event-driven awareness translates into sustained shelf performance, will be the first real test of whether the strategy holds beyond the booth.
