Google Extends Free AI Tool Access to All UAE University Students Through 2026

UAE university students gained free access to Google AI Plus on a one-year subscription, following a joint rollout by the UAE Artificial Intelligence Office and Google Gemini that covers all registered students aged 18 and older through December 31, 2026.

The delivery mechanism is straightforward. Students enroll via goo.gle/studentoffer26-uae and receive immediate access to the Gemini application running the company’s latest AI model, image and video generation tools, 400 gigabytes of storage, and Gemini Notebook, a platform that lets students interact directly with academic materials, generate summaries, and access interactive audio content. The package also supports source organization and research preparation workflows.

Training is built into the program. The AI Office and Google are running both virtual and in-person sessions to teach students how to use Gemini and Gemini Notebook effectively for study and research, with an explicit emphasis on responsible AI application. That combination of tool access and structured instruction is what distinguishes this rollout from a simple software giveaway.

Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, was direct about the program’s intent. He said the next phase requires students to move beyond simply using AI tools toward building deeper understanding of how to deploy them responsibly in learning and research contexts. Al Olama added that providing access to current AI models while developing operational skills fosters continuous learning and innovation, positioning students to contribute to designing an AI-driven future.

This rollout expands on a similar university initiative from the previous year, extending eligibility to a larger student population across the Arab region, a scope increase that reflects growing institutional appetite for structured AI access in educational settings.

Both the AI Office and Google situate the program within their “AI for All” initiative, launched in 2024, which targets multiple population segments with the goal of expanding AI access, building foundational skills, supporting research, and fostering development of practical applications for various communities.

The UAE government frames the student program as capacity-building infrastructure, connecting it to the country’s stated goal of developing an integrated ecosystem for AI adoption. Partnerships with global technology institutions are the chosen mechanism, and the emphasis on younger generations raises a practical question worth watching: whether one year of subsidized access, backed by training sessions, translates into durable skills once the free subscription expires.
