DUBAI: The UAE AI Camp opens its eighth edition on August 17, running through August 29, with the National Program for Artificial Intelligence and the National Program for Coders jointly responsible for delivering two weeks of intensive, hands-on training to participants across the country. Now in its eighth cycle, the program has moved well beyond pilot status, functioning as a recurring national infrastructure for AI skills transfer rather than a one-time event.
The camp’s operational scope is deliberately wide. School and university students, working professionals, entrepreneurs running small and medium-sized enterprises, and individuals with no prior technical background are all eligible. That breadth is a design choice, positioning the program as a national platform rather than a specialized track for advanced practitioners alone.
The curriculum balances theory with applied problem-solving. Workshop sessions cover cybersecurity fundamentals, including fraud detection methods and password protection protocols, alongside digital well-being considerations. A dedicated Gemini Academy track serves student participants specifically. Beyond security, the program addresses practical deployment scenarios: how organizations integrate AI assistants into project management workflows, how legal departments use AI for compliance operations, and how businesses operationalize AI across marketing, video production, and educational content creation.
The centerpiece of this year’s edition is the Future of Transport Hackathon, developed in partnership with the Transport Authority of the Government of Ajman. Participants apply AI methodologies to actual transportation challenges, moving beyond classroom instruction into real-world problem identification and solution development. The hackathon creates a direct pipeline from workshop learning to implementation-focused work, which is where the program’s practical ambitions are most visible.
Technical depth runs throughout. Sessions examine how generative AI systems function at a mechanical level, exploring the data ingestion and learning processes that underpin modern models. Participants also receive an interactive introduction to robotics and learn to distinguish between generative AI, which produces content, and agentic AI, which operates autonomously to accomplish defined objectives. That distinction addresses a genuine vocabulary gap in the industry and clarifies different technological capabilities for anyone looking to apply them in practice.
Business and sector-specific applications receive dedicated attention as well. The program covers how AI integrates into mobile application development, how video production workflows incorporate AI tools, and how AI-powered educational content systems are deployed. These sessions ground abstract concepts in operational contexts where participants are likely to encounter or deploy such technologies in their own work.
Delivery depends on a network of global technology partners. Maharat Min Google, Microsoft, Brainy n Bright, Accenture, Think Media Labs, Intel, BytePlus, Spectrum, and Modesh World collectively contribute expertise and workshop facilitation. This distributed model spreads instructional capacity across established organizations while the two national programs maintain overall coordination.
The two-week concentrated format allows participants to move through multiple competency areas without losing continuity across workshop topics and the applied hackathon component. Whether that format, now tested across eight editions, can keep pace with the speed at which AI tooling itself is changing remains the open question for the program’s organizers.
